NHS Dental Charges
Sharrow Dental Practice is the largest NHS practice in the local area with a long and trusted history of providing high quality NHS dentistry. We believe that everyone has the right to access high quality NHS dentistry, which is why we continue to take on and help new patients in Chelmsford and Essex.
NHS dentistry is one of few NHS services where you will have to pay a contribution towards the cost of your care. A summary of the available treatments and associated charges:
Band 1 (£23.80)
- Emergency appointments to get you out of pain;
- Check-up (examination and diagnosis including x-rays as well as a simple scale and polish where clinically indicated)
Band 2 (£65.20)
- Fillings, periodontal treatments, root canal treatments, extractions and other care;
- Covers everything listed in band 1
Band 3 (£282.80)
- Complex dental treatment involving construction of laboratory-made appliances such as dentures, crowns and splints;
- Covers everything listed in bands 1 and 2
Please be aware that not all treatments are available on the NHS; many elective, cosmetic and advanced procedures will be subject to private charges.
The choice of filling materials is at the discretion of the dentist on the NHS. Please be aware that white fillings in back teeth (premolars and molars) will likely be subject to private fees.

Sorry it has taken me this long to write a review but I just want to thank Ian so much for my teeth. I had a brace put on and I was quite nervous throughout the whole procedure as I don’t feel totally comfortable whenever I go to the dentist, however Ian was always so professional and confident that I knew I was in safe hands. He is also very honest so you know what result you can achieve and what you can’t which I think is really important. I am so pleased with my teeth now the brace is off and I would 100% recommend!! thank you Ian & Sharrow.
Sharrow has been very warm and welcoming – good services all round. Mr Clough has been very meticulous in his treatment – very patient. Taking his time with everything he has done. Truly great dentist, it’s no accident that my family, my daughter’s husband and now his family now go there. Having had bad experiences in my early life , I’m so glad I found them and can only deduce that they only take on dentist who are a. fantastic at their job, b. very empathetic to those who have had bad experiences.
