Comprehensive General Dentistry Services
We know that having a great smile isn’t just about having white, straight teeth, but the health of the mouth, teeth and gums and how they work and function for the patient. At the forefront of everything we do is our patients’ overall oral and dental wellbeing, and it’s our job to ensure that we look after your needs every step of the way towards healthy and problem-free teeth and gums.
Here are some of the general dentistry services we can provide;
Emergency Dental Treatment
Dental emergencies can occur at any time and be a painful and frightening experience for patients. At Sharrow Dental, we offer emergency dental appointments at both weekdays and weekends to help our patients receive fast, effective treatment and help relieve any discomfort.
When is emergency dental treatment needed?
- Trauma to the face or mouth causing broken teeth and injuries to the lips, cheeks and tongue
- Severe toothache or facial pain that is radiating and not helped by painkillers
- Painful swelling or abscesses that may be accompanied by a temperature
- Spontaneous bleeding
- Open or closed jaw lock
Dental or Facial Trauma
Dental trauma typically covers things such as injured, damaged or knocked-out teeth and is not only a worry for patients but most are often left confused about the course of action and where they should seek treatment. Is it best to go to the doctors or A&E, or is it something that your dentist can resolve for you?
At Sharrow Dental, our skilled clinicians are here to help patients who have suffered dental trauma and work quickly to assess them, treat them and have them feeling better in no time.
Dental Hygiene
We know that, for some patients, a hygienist appointment is often mistakenly thought of as an ‘unnecessary extra’ that they don’t need to spend their money on. However, as our experts will tell you, the two major causes of tooth loss are tooth decay and gum disease, which can often be prevented by maintaining good oral health and regular teeth cleanings with a dental hygienist.
Our skilled team of hygiene therapists are able to provide both routine and deep cleaning services to help our patients keep their gums, teeth and soft tissues as healthy as possible, helping to prevent costly and painful treatments being required in the future.
Dental Imaging
At Sharrow Dental, we are investing in cutting-edge dental technologies to ensure that our dentists have the very best tools to work with, which in turn enables advanced planning to help provide the very best treatment and outcomes for our patients.
Our advanced imaging suite comprises state-of-the-art 3D and dental imaging equipment, which is utilised as an effective diagnostic tool, providing incredibly accurate images that help when planning complex dental treatments.
Children’s Dentistry
At Sharrow Dental, we understand that for people of all ages, especially children, visiting the dentist can be a daunting and possibly scary experience. Our friendly team work hard to ensure that, from the moment they walk through the door, the environment is as relaxing as possible, and make sure that their experience is a positive one.
When it comes to children’s dentistry, our belief is that prevention is better than cure and we work to instil this within our young patients from an early age by forming a strong, trusted relationship to help keep them on the path of good oral hygiene with healthy teeth and regular check-ups.
Conscious Sedation
It is not uncommon for some people to have mild or even severe phobias and anxieties about visiting the dentist. However, we know how vital it is that these feelings do not lead to missed, delayed or avoided check-ups and treatments, as these can result in detrimental long-term oral health problems.
At Sharrow Dental, we are able to offer in-house conscious sedation, which is designed to help nervous patients or those with severe gag reflexes go through treatment in a way that is comfortable, stress- and pain-free. The techniques we use at Sharrow involve a combination of relaxation techniques and careful administration of sedative agents to help reduce anxiety, minimise discomfort and induce feelings of relaxation during dental procedures such as root canals, fillings and teeth cleanings.

What happens at my first dentist visit?
For new patients, we will need to make notes and take details of your personal contact information as well as a full medical history including any current medications you may be on, in order to help treat you safely and effectively.
We then carry out a full check-up, chart all of your teeth, assess the gums and overall oral hygiene, note previous treatments and dental work and, if necessary, take dental x-rays to gain a full picture of your dental health. From here our expert clinicians will have a full picture of your dental wellbeing and will be able to advise and discuss any concerns you have or potential treatments that might be required.
We are able to facilitate both NHS and private patients so get in touch to book your first appointment!
Why do I need to have regular appointments if my teeth feel fine?
Just because you don’t yet feel like there is a problem, doesn’t mean that there isn’t one there. Regular check-ups with your dentist are pivotal in early diagnosis of things such as gum disease which is often described as a ‘silent disease’ and, if left untreated, can lead to a number of problems including loss of teeth.
Consistent monitoring also allows for dentists to ensure that good oral hygiene is being maintained and provide tips, guidance and crucial information on what you need to do to keep your teeth and gums healthy and advise when things such as hygienist treatment might be beneficial.
I am afraid of going to the dentist, what should I do?
We are aware of the impact that dental anxiety can have on some patients and our staff are suitably trained to help you overcome those fears. We will happily speak to you over the phone at first and work to make your first visit with us as pleasant and stress free as possible and discuss your options, such as conscious sedation for any treatment that is required.
Your dental and oral health is important to us and we will always provide the highest quality of care to our patients to ensure they get the treatment they need in a way that works for them.
