Everything You Need to Know
When it comes to dental care, there is so much conflicting information out there. As a leading Essex dental practice, we are here to give you all of the information you need to proceed with the right kind of care for you.
Is Sharrow Dental an NHS practice?
This one may surprise a lot of people, but yes, we are! We accept NHS patients, but due to the current UK funding model and other factors beyond our control, there is a waiting list. Because of this, we ask that all of our NHS patients keep up with their regular checkups and inform us of any change to their contact details, so appointment reminders don’t get missed.
If you want to become an NHS patient at our practice, just get in touch with the team today, and they will give you an idea of how long you may expect to wait and what your options are in the meantime. Remember, even if you aren’t one of our NHS patients yet, we’re here to offer advice and support.
What dental treatment can I get on the NHS?
There’s a misconception that NHS dental treatment is very limited in terms of what is on offer, but you can access the following as an NHS patient:
- Dentures
- Root-canal treatment
- Crowns and bridges
- Fillings
- Preventive treatments, such as a scale and polish when necessary
- Orthodontic treatment
It’s when you are looking for cosmetic dentistry that you may find that the NHS doesn’t offer what you need. Things like whitening all the way through to veneers and composite bonding are classed as cosmetic treatments and are not covered by the NHS.
Is private treatment better than NHS care?
In terms of the standard of care that you receive, no! We treat all of our patients with care and respect, whether they are coming in for their regular NHS checkup or beginning a course of private treatment to transform their smile.
If I want to see a dentist quickly and can afford it, should I go private?
It’s totally up to you! If you would rather see a dentist right away or you want to get cosmetic treatment, then going private can be a great move. We are totally transparent when it comes to costs, and when you are under our care, you will be looked after no matter your concerns. If you don’t need to see a dentist right away and are happy to wait a little while, enquiring about our NHS availability could suit you.
No two patients are the same, so we really recommend getting in touch for a chat about your needs so that we can recommend the best type of care for you.
